Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teacher to work within a school's SEMH base, supporting pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access learning. This role is ideal for a teacher who understands the impact of social, emotional, and mental health needs on learning and is passionate about helping pupils successfully re-engage with education.

Location: Dudley
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only
Salary: £32,916 - £46,286 (depending on experience & qualifications)



The role:

As a Teacher in the SEMH base, you will work with a small group of pupils who may access the base either full-time or alongside mainstream classes. You will provide a structured, nurturing environment that supports emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and academic progress, while working closely with the wider school team.

Key responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver adapted, engaging lessons tailored to pupils within the SEMH base
- Create a calm, consistent, and predictable learning environment with clear routines
- Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, coping strategies, and social skills
- Implement behaviour support plans and trauma-informed approaches
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and confidence
- Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, SENCO, and safeguarding leads
- Support reintegration into mainstream classes where appropriate
- Monitor and assess pupil progress, adjusting provision as needed
- Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals



Essential requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent)
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural needs, or trauma-related challenges
- Strong behaviour management skills using positive and restorative approaches
- Ability to differentiate teaching to meet academic and emotional needs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing



Desirable:
- Experience working in an SEMH base, nurture provision, or inclusion unit
- Training in trauma-informed practice, attachment, or emotional regulation strategies
- Team Teach or de-escalation training
- Experience supporting reintegration into mainstream education
