Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint a skilled and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a young child in Early Years. This role is offered on a casual/zero-hours basis, intended to provide contingency cover when the child’s allocated 1:1 support is unavailable. Hours will be offered in advance where possible but cannot be guaranteed week to week.
The successful candidate will:
• Work on a 1:1 basis with a child who requires constant adult supervision
• Support emotional regulation, transitions, communication and engagement
• Work within a nurture-based, low-demand approach
• Follow detailed risk assessments, behaviour support plans and guidance from external professionals
• Liaise closely with the class teacher, SENCO and senior leaders
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience supporting children with SEND (ASD experience desirable)
• Is calm, patient and emotionally resilient
• Can follow guidance consistently and reflect on practice
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Is able to work flexibly and communicate clearly with staff
Experience in specialist provision, nurture settings or with high-needs pupils would be an advantage.

• Salary information: West Berkshire pay scale grade B, hourly rate (including holiday pay) is £14.18 to £14.40 per hour, Local Government Pension Scheme available.
