Summary
Job Purpose and Responsibilities:
Deliver a high-quality, professional risk and insurance service, ensuring compliance with statutory, policy, and governance requirements.
Investigate, manage, and conclude insurance and compensation claims (e.g. liability, property, public/employer’s liability) in line with policy terms, Civil Procedure Rules, and legal frameworks.
Act as a trusted advisor to directorates, schools, leaseholders, and other stakeholders on insurance coverage, risk management, and loss prevention.
Provide a customer-focused service, proactively handling enquiries, taking ownership of cases, and promoting a positive customer experience.
Assess liability, quantum, and settlement, including fraud detection, evidence gathering, and use of Judicial Studies Board guidelines where applicable.
Analyse claims data and trends to produce reports, recommend risk mitigation actions, and support risk improvement initiatives.
Maintain effective working relationships with insurers, brokers, solicitors, loss adjusters, and internal teams to progress claims efficiently.
Support operational delivery including engineering inspections, leaseholder insurance, case management, and system administration.
Promote Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) and contribute to a collaborative, proactive, and results-focused council culture.
Essential Skills and Requirements:
Ability to advise on matters concerning risk and insurance.
Proven commitment to delivering high levels of customer service.
Sound knowledge of communication and customer care skills, including written, verbal, and face-to-face interactions.
Ability to form objective, balanced judgements and seek appropriate guidance from the Risk & Insurance Manager when required.
Insurance litigation experience, with a basic or introductory level of knowledge.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required / ability to obtain a satisfactory DBS clearance.
