We are now recruiting for an Assistant Ranger who can commit to working regular weekday evenings for a seven-month period from April until October 2026.

With a love for the great outdoors, you’ll enjoy working with nature and want to inspire and motivate others. You’ll help to make habitats for wildlife better and make everyone feel welcome at our places.

This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the important work we’re doing. As part of the Ranger team, you’ll need to think about our impact on the environment and how you can help.

Hours: 7 hours a week. This will be 5pm-8:30pm Saturdays and Sundays.

Duration: Fixed Term Contract from 4th April until 18th October 2026

Interview date: Week commencing 2nd March

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.
What it's like to work here
This role is based at Lyme. The wider Ranger team includes 4 Rangers and you will report to the Lead Ranger.

As the evening ranger you will be the eyes and ears of Lyme up until the estate closes at 8pm. You'll work independently to deliver a variety of maintenance and security tasks. Lone working is a crucial part of this role so your ability to work efficiently and manage your own workload is essential. A full clean driving license is also required.

This role will ideally suit those looking to begin a career in conservation and land management.

What you'll be doing
You'll actively engage with visitors to ensure that their visit to the park is enjoyable and create opportunities to convey key messages that will inspire visitors but also promote responsible behaviour.

You're expected to respond to radio calls and resolve or investigate issues that arise on the estate. Examples include sheep/deer being worried by dogs, injured sheep/deer, first aid incidents, lost property, suspicious behaviour and abandoned vehicles.

You'll have the opportunity to help the ranger team deliver a programme of summer engagement activities and contribute to wider property events. You'll work alongside and provide support to volunteers.

You'll carry out presentation tasks across the property, including mowing and strimming, emptying bins and litter pick areas as required. You'll also repair and install park infrastructure and estate furniture as such as gates, fences and stiles.

You're responsible for locking gates and ensuring visitors and other members of staff have left the park safely and on time.

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.
