Job Title: Support Worker (Children & Adults with Additional Needs)

Job Purpose
As a Support Worker, you will provide one-to-one care and support for children and adults with additional needs, in line with the Health and Social Care Standards and Care Inspectorate expectations. Your role is to promote dignity, choice, independence, and wellbeing, supporting individuals to live fulfilling lives in line with their personal goals.
You will deliver person-centred care, ensuring that each individual is treated with respect and that support is tailored to their unique needs, preferences, and abilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide high-quality person-centred support to children and adults with additional needs in the community.
Assist with personal care where required, maintaining dignity, privacy, and respect at all times.
Support individuals with daily living activities and community participation, including:
o Going out for meals or drinks
o Shopping trips
o Leisure activities such as gaming, swimming, and cycling
o Social and recreational outings
o Cooking and meal preparation
• Encourage independence, choice, and inclusion, enabling individuals to make informed decisions about their care and activities.
• Build trusting, respectful relationships and act as a positive role model.
• Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and colleagues.
• Ensure all activities and care practices comply with the Health and Social Care Standards, safeguarding policies, and relevant legislation.
• Maintain accurate records and report concerns or changes in individuals’ needs promptly.
• Sleepovers may be required, with competitive rates paid for overnight shifts.

Working Environment
• Work primarily in the community, supporting individuals in their homes and during outings.
• Access to a personal vehicle with business insurance and a full UK driving licence is required, as transporting individuals is part of the role.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
Requirement Description
Personal Qualities Warm, friendly, and compassionate personality with a genuine desire to support others
Approach to Care Committed to person-centred care, upholding dignity, privacy, and independence in line with Care Inspectorate standards
Communication Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to understand individual needs
Flexibility Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and sleepovers
Transport Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle with business insurance
SSSC Registration Willing to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months (if not already registered)
PVG Scheme Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme or willingness to join
Desirable Criteria:
• Experience: Previous experience supporting children and/or adults with additional needs is preferred, but a compassionate and caring attitude is equally valued.
• Qualifications: SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards achieving this qualification.
• Knowledge: Understanding of learning disabilities, autism, or additional support needs is an advantage, but a willingness to learn and develop these skills is equally welcome.
