Description
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Environmental Health Officer (Private Sector Housing Reactive) to join our team at WCR 3, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and safety standards of private sector housing within our jurisdiction. In this position, you will be responsible for investigating complaints related to housing conditions and taking appropriate action to ensure compliance with health regulations. Your expertise will contribute to the overall wellbeing of our community by identifying and addressing issues such as disrepair, overcrowding, and other hazards that could adversely affect public health. You will work closely with landlords, tenants, and various stakeholders to provide guidance and support in resolving housing-related concerns. Additionally, you will conduct inspections, enforce legislation, and keep abreast of changes to housing laws and regulations. Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of residential properties to assess compliance with health and safety standards
Investigate complaints from tenants and the public regarding housing conditions and illegal practices
Prepare detailed reports and documentation following inspections and investigations
Enforce relevant legislation and regulations pertaining to private sector housing
Advise landlords and tenants on their rights and responsibilities in relation to housing standards
Collaborate with other agencies and departments to promote healthy housing initiatives
Maintain accurate records and databases related to inspections, complaints, and actions taken
Requirements
A degree in Environmental Health or a related field
Registration with the relevant professional body (e.g., Environmental Health Registration Board)
Proven experience in environmental health, specifically in private sector housing
Strong understanding of housing legislation, health and safety regulations, and environmental standards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse groups
Ability to analyze complex situations and develop practical solutions to problems
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and priorities effectively
