Position: Contract
Location: Bristol or/ and bridgwater
Days on Site: 2-3
Duration: TBC, Approx until 31st Dec 2026
Pay: TBC DOE up to 373£/per day
The Role
- Engage business stakeholders and capture requirements.
- Analyse and understand business data and gaps in people, process, systems and data to guide decision making and data product creation.
- Communicate results of analysis and use of data products and visualisations.
- Scope investment cases with Stakeholders to produce Data products to meet requirements.
- Support architecture and technical delivery teams to develop data products that meet business requirements.
Principal Accountabilities
- Use agile delivery methodologies by leveraging Azure DevOps to structure and manage user stories, tasks, dependencies, and issues, adjusting work practices to align with the team's delivery framework.
- Understand the high-level architecture and its alignment to key business objectives, ensuring data products are designed to monitor project safety, quality, time, and cost.
- Analyse and understand a business problem or opportunity capturing the requirements with the requirements database.
- Undertake research and analysis to understand how a business or business area works, considering the people, processes, information and systems in a form that can be consumed by Data Architects and Technical resources.
- Identify gaps in people, processes, information and systems. Particularly focussing on data that would need to be collected and moved to the analytics platform.
- Apply data analysis and data visualisation tools and techniques to draft a view of the viability of proposed Data Products.
- Communicate data, insights and conclusions in appropriate formats.
- Produce Investment Cases to produce Data Products to meet Stakeholder needs.
- Ensure new products meet stakeholder needs, and are aligned with organisational goals.
- Raises any open issues identified in the operating model or data products to the Information Design Authority's open issues list for review and resolution.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Stakeholder relationship management involves building trust, managing stakeholder expectations and communications, and remaining focused on user needs.
- Adapting to delivery methodologies involves contributing to discussions on the appropriate delivery methodology to use, and adapting your approach based on the delivery methodology of the team. (ADO).
- Identify and capture stakeholder requirements and validate them against available or possible data products.
- Applying statistical and analytical techniques involves using and evaluating methods to answer research questions and make data-informed recommendations.
- Developing code for ad hoc analysis including designing, implementing and improving analytical approaches. Usually performed in Excel or Databricks notebooks.
- Communicating between the technical and non-technical involves conveying information using the most effective medium and language for the audience.
- Testing that requirements have been fully met by using appropriate tools and techniques to verify that a Data Product meets the established requirements.
- Delivering business impact through data involves identifying the priorities of the organisation, recognising the contribution of data and making decisions with data to ensure you deliver business impact.
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of data ethics, legal, security and data privacy obligations. E.g. GDPR, Export Controls and Intellectual Property.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. Business, Data/Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, or another analytical discipline).
- Business Analysis
- Demonstrable experience leading requirements definition, process mapping, and problem-framing activities within a data-centric programme or transformation.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, digital, data, operations) to translate business needs into clear, testable requirements for data products, dashboards, or analytical solutions.
- Proven ability to analyse complex business processes, identify data gaps, and develop options or recommendations using structured methods (e.g. As-Is/To-Be, swimlanes, use cases, decision modelling).
- Data Analysis
- Strong experience performing end-to-end analytical work: data discovery, profiling, validation, transformation, analysis, interpretation, and communication.
- Ability to design and assess data quality rules, data lineage, and basic data modelling in collaboration with data engineers and architects.
- Demonstrable experience using data to inform decisions, create business cases, or evaluate operational performance.
- Technical Competencies
- Working knowledge of SQL sufficient to write queries, explore datasets, validate data transformations, and troubleshoot simple issues.
- Ability to read and interpret Python code used for data processing or analytics; able to modify simple scripts if required (not expected to be a developer).
- Track record of project or programme delivery.
- Track record of delivering work packages or contributing to complex projects/programmes in structured, controlled environments (e.g., gated governance, change control).
- Experience working in environments with assurance, audit, or regulatory oversight-following formal standards, templates, and evidence procedures.
- Ability to communicate insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders.
Desirable
- Professional qualification in Business Analysis (e.g. BCS BA, IIBA ECBA/CCBA/CBAP).
- Professional qualification in data or analytics (e.g. Google Data Analytics, Microsoft DP-900/PL-300, BCS Data Analysis).
- Good experience in Nuclear, Asset Intensive and/or Safety Critical industries.
