TeacherActive is working in partnership with residential care homes and specialist SEND / ALN provisions in Abergavenny and the surrounding areas, recruiting skilled, resilient, and compassionate Residential Support Workers to support individuals with additional learning needs, epilepsy, and complex behavioural needs.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in residential care, children’s homes, specialist SEN services, or supported living, who are confident managing seizure care, maintaining safety overnight, and providing consistent, person-centred support.
About the Role – Residential Support Worker (Abergavenny)
As a Residential Support Worker, you will support residents with:
• Epilepsy (including seizure monitoring and emergency protocols)
• SEND / ALN (Additional Learning Needs)
• SEMH and complex emotional needs
• Challenging behaviour and emotional regulation needs
Key Responsibilities:
• Providing waking-night support
• Monitoring and responding to seizure activity, following care and medication plans
• Supporting personal care, routines, and emotional wellbeing
• Maintaining a safe, calm, and structured residential environment
• Accurate record-keeping and handovers, particularly following night shifts
• Working collaboratively with senior staff, healthcare professionals, and families
Essential Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Residential Support Worker or in a similar care role
• Epilepsy training (or strong experience supporting individuals with epilepsy)
• Willingness to work night shifts, including waking nights
• Experience supporting individuals with complex needs or challenging behaviour
• Strong spoken and written English
• Right to work in the UK
• A 5-year employment history, with all gaps explained
• Two years of references, including at least one from a care or education setting
• An Enhanced DBS (and overseas police checks if applicable)
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach to care
