Summary

About Us
Brandsmiths is a law firm with offices in London and Manchester providing specialist legal advice to IP rich businesses. We were ranked as one of the top 3 IP firms in the UK by the Times in 2026. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive and collegiate atmosphere.

About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to get involved at a crucial stage of development for a leading intellectual property focused law firm.

We are looking for a mid-level non-contentious solicitor with a particular interest in intellectual property and commercial legal work to join our team. This role will involve working within a growing commercial team with a sector focus on Sport, Media and Entertainment and Retail. Our clients are a broad range of, high profile and fast growth businesses, including football clubs such as Everton and Wrexham; talent such as Roberto Carlos and Tom Daley; and brands such as Nobody’s Child and Thursday.

The role will suit someone who is comfortable working both collaboratively within a team as well as independently on mid-level matters, leading and supervising junior members of the team as required. The role may suit an individual currently working within a larger commercial team who has a desire to establish themselves as a key player in a fast-growing area of the Brandsmiths business.

As well as an interesting workload, you will be encouraged to develop your own client relationships, support business development initiatives and to help drive the growth of the team and the wider firm. There may also be secondment opportunities with our client base as required from time to time.

We work closely with a number of in-house legal teams, so in-house experience would be beneficial for any applicant, but is not essential. We also have a range of clients on retainer arrangements.

We encourage autonomy and there is scope to make the role your own by getting involved in business development, client meetings and high-quality work from the start. You will progress based on merit, with a clear path to promotion for the right candidate.

You must have top class legal, technical and soft skills. You will be expected to work proactively on commercial matters, with appropriate supervision, and so should be able to demonstrate experience in the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts.

You will have particular experience in contracts with intellectual property and data protection aspects, for example IP licensing, software, franchising, and data processing agreements. Familiarity with GDPR, data compliance matters and broader data strategy issues will be highly beneficial. Experience working in the technology space and advising on large-scale commercial transactions will be a significant advantage. You will be expected to demonstrate an ability to identify relevant intellectual property rights, and ways in which businesses are able to protect, exploit and enforce them.
