Summary

Key duties and responsibilities Management 1. To have excellent change management skills; demonstrating the ability to identify opportunities and threats to any new initiatives and propose workable solutions. 2. To continually seek out and initiate service improvements and actively look for innovative practices developed elsewhere which could be used to improve our service delivery. 3. To support and lead the team during any transitions and changes 4. To be familiar with and adhere to all the Trusts policies, procedures and protocols. 5. To line manage staff and ensure 1-1s and appraisals are undertaken in timely fashion and staff mandatory training is maintained. Staff development and progression should be at forefront and aligned with department current and future needs. 6. To engage with Trusts patient flow initiative to ensure Xray provides the level of support required 7. Ensure the unit has a business continuity plan and that staff have reviews/reminders of contingency processes annually 8. Collaborate and contribute with the partner trusts in the SCN to align practices and processes where possible and share learning. Engage with EDIN when required. 9. To lead on strategic change and complex decision making in the department, ensuring best practice is followed. Adapt the service to short and long term demands. 10. Ensure the service requirements are monitored against staffing and equipment provision. Be responsible for planning and identifying future departmental needs and presenting this information in appropriate format to the service manager and /or DOM. 11. Undertake information and teaching presentations if required in relations to Xray expertise. 12. Be responsible for the production and implementation of an induction programme for new radiographers, assistants, students, APs ad apprentices including agency and bank staff. 13. To participate in recruitment and selection of radiographers and other staff within the department following the trusts recruitment processes, including chairing appointment panels when required. 14. To attend and participate in Departmental meetings and policy groups, and to represent and promote the Department throughout the Trust, and within the SCN and EDIN, as appropriate. 15. Use data to analyse the capacity required for service needs and ensure any concerns around establishment are acted on 16. To be responsible for ensuring rotas are produced and signed off according to trust policy. Staffing levels should be safe and any issues with achieving this should be escalated and managed. The rota should reflect department needs to maximise safe and effective clinical lists to maximise equipment capacity. 17. Encourage and enable staff to report all adverse incidents and be responsible for investigating these and implementing /sharing learning. 18. To be responsible for the Xray budget within the area of your control. 19. Promote best use of resources and monitor this. 20. Ensure there is clarity regarding responsibilities of staff within the team and that all daily checks are undertaken and any identified issues handed over and communicated to all relevant staff. 21. To take the lead on any procurement programmes involving Xray equipment or ancillary processes and services. 22. Ensure all documentation produced is in line with accreditation services 23. To ensure and be responsible for all admin and booking processes ensuring they are following Trust and national protocol within a standardised service. 24. Work with all areas of imaging and the trust to ultimately hold our patients experience and journey at the heart of all of our planning. 25. Work in partnership with the universities and practice educators to ensure students and apprentices receive an excellent standard of education. Leadership 1. To lead by example by maintaining the highest technical and clinical skills. 2. To promote good relationships with other departments and Trust staff, acting as an ambassador with external agencies and within the local imaging collaborative and network. 3. To role model the Trusts values and behaviours and ensure compliance by team members and staff throughout the department. 4. To be able to analyse demand/activity data, and use horizon scanning, to assess future service requirements. Share this information with the leadership team to ensure staff are knowledgeable around service needs and delivery Communication 1. To have an effective communication system for the Xray team and a process if anything needs escalating externally. 2. To ensure effective communication with patients regarding procedures, consent and to ensure the service meets their requirements. 3. To communicate changes in practice to all concerned in a timely and effective manner. Ensure all stakeholders are consulted. 4. To have skills in conflict management to diffuse and reconcile any contentious issues. 5. Ensure patient are receiving the most up to date and accurate information about radiation and clinical risks so they can make an informed choice. 6. Oversee the ongoing development of the document management system and ensure its accessible and documents maintained for all staff to use Clinical Practice 1. To perform and assist with clinical examinations within Xray, working to high levels of specialist expertise, demonstrating the practical application of professional skills that are underpinned by a robust theoretical knowledge 2. To maintain high standards of care for all patients undergoing examinations within the department. 3. Maintain a high degree of clinical expertise, being aware of current developments in medical imaging and ensure that image quality and optimisation of images have a high priority within the department. 4. To have a clear understanding of the physical principles and limitations of Xray technology. This should be embedded within staff training and competencies. Promote high standards of technical expertise within all clinical areas and be able to troubleshoot equipment problems within boundaries of whats possible for a radiographer. 5. To ensure that the environment, equipment, and facilities within the Imaging department are managed within the context of the Trusts Health and Safety Policies and that all staff are aware of their responsibilities. 6. To participate in training and induction of new staff, students and apprentices to ensure they are working to the standards and expectations held within Xray. 7. To be accountable and responsible for own professional performance and actions and act as role model. Quality and Audit 1. To maintain good clinical practice in line with the Trusts clinical governance issues and to keep documentation to evidence this. 2. To ensure all equipment is operating optimally, breakdowns are dealt with promptly and records are kept of QA checks and maintenance visits according to legislation. Employ an effective method of communication to ensure all staff are aware of equipment errors and actions to be taken. Escalate to estates when KPIs for maintenance are not being met. 3. To pro-actively audit the service and ensure audit is embedded as a tool to improve practice 4. To monitor the waiting list and pro-actively work to reduce this and keep within set targets where resource allows working to both local and national optimal pathways and KPIs 5. To investigate complaints and enquiries relating to the Xray service in accordance with Trust policy. Act on and celebrate FFT /patient and staff survey results. 6. To undertake and be responsible for risk assessments for the department- to establish the level of potential risk and formulate a plan to mitigate identified risks. Ensure this is communicated to all staff, as necessary. 7. To undertake research projects as requested and work with the Trust research team to implement studies where appropriate. 8. To advise the Trust of any changes to national standards that are required and communicate the impact on the service. Bench mark the JPUH against other Trusts as part of the monitoring. 9. To take responsibility for Information Governance and ensure patient data is correctly archived onto PACS and RIS. 10. Have responsibility for Risk Management and for Health and Safety at Work matters in relation to patients, visitors and staff within the department. 11. Be responsible for monitoring patient feedback and making adjustments to experience where appropriate. 12. Ensure all relevant documentation to satisfy IRR, IRMER, HSE and MHRA is available, relevant and working in practice.
