Summary

Based at Cannington College, the Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer plays a pivotal role in coordinating wellbeing support for students across the College. The college Residential provision provides accommodation for students aged 16+ studying across any of our College Group. The College’s primary student accommodation is based at the Cannington campus and consists of 211 beds.
Working closely with the Counselling & Safeguarding Team Leader, the Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer is responsible for triaging referrals, ensuring timely and appropriate support is provided, and maintaining a calm and effective approach under pressure.
This role is central to supporting students - particularly those from vulnerable groups and those within our residential provision - by addressing a wide range of issues that may affect their learning and overall college experience. This role will also co-ordinate and monitor the wellbeing of the College’s residential learners with a specific focus on the under 18 provision. A key element of the role will be to provide safeguarding support to all students in residential accommodation and work with students to mentor, self-assess, agree targets and review progress.
The Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer provides one-to-one and group guidance and mentoring, signposting students to internal services or external agencies, helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment across the college group. The working pattern for this post will be 4 working days, followed by 4 rest days. The shift will begin at 09:00 and finish at 20:40 with one hour lunch.
The Student Experience Team at Cannington interviews and allocates residential places to students. They provide 24/7 support for residential students with issues ranging from accommodation queries to student wellbeing, entertainment and enrichment. The team’s primary responsibility is the safeguarding of residential students. The residential provision was inspected by Ofsted under the Further Education Residential Accommodation: National Minimum Standards in October 2022 and awarded Outstanding overall.
This role will also focus on engaging residential learners in a range of clubs as well as compulsory residential sessions, in order to develop and enhance learners’ personal, social and employability skills.
