Our client is an environmental consultancy that works with a range of national clients (including major retailers, housebuilders, utilities providers and major charities) to enhance nature and biodiversity.
They are seeking a motivated, talented, professional ecologist to join their consultancy team. You will be joining a 22-person team made up of experienced environmental experts and support staff who are committed to exemplary and sustainable placemaking that benefits communities, people and nature.
Your new role
This role contributes to the delivery of ecological projects through survey planning, logistics, and coordination of people, equipment, and data. Responsibilities include organising and supporting field surveys, managing access arrangements, deploying and recovering monitoring equipment, and coordinating subcontractors and field teams.
The role involves undertaking and supporting protected species surveys, supervising works in an ecological capacity, analysing survey data, and preparing outputs for reporting and mapping. Additional duties include supporting ecological assessments and metrics, managing small projects and budgets, coordinating ecological data, and contributing to service development and continuous improvement.
What you'll need to succeed
- Bachelor's degree in Ecology or a closely related field
- Membership with a professional ecological organisation (minimum qualifying level)
- Minimum two years of experience in ecological consultancy
- Strong report writing skills
- Proficiency in GIS for map production
- Familiarity with protected species surveys
- Ability to apply Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, including use of biodiversity metrics
- Understanding of Ecological Impact Assessments and Habitat Regulations Assessments
- Solid knowledge of UK and EU wildlife and habitats legislation, planning policy, and best practices
