Blending historic tradition with a progressive outlook, the Club brings together more than 20 specialist departments and a diverse, engaged membership. Excellence, responsibility and courtesy sit at the heart of everything we do.

The Governance Officer Opportunity:

We are seeking a Governance Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting and strengthening the Club’s governance framework. This is a distinctive position offering real ownership, autonomy and influence.

Working closely with the Trustees, Main Committee, principal sub-committees and Senior Leadership Team, you will be the trusted expert ensuring governance processes run smoothly, compliantly and effectively across the organisation.

Whether you’re an experienced governance professional or a sharp, inquisitive individual looking to deepen your expertise, this role offers exposure, responsibility and the chance to make a tangible impact.

Key Responsibilities of the Governance Officer:

• Acting as the central point of expertise for governance, compliance and rule implementation
• Supporting Trustees, Committees and sub-committees with high-quality governance and secretariat services
• Advising on governance matters, committee structures and best practice
• Keeping abreast of relevant legislation and regulatory developments, recommending updates as required
• Coordinating committee elections and appointments with fairness and transparency
• Establishing and managing the annual governance cycle across the organisation
• Planning, preparing and distributing agendas, board packs, papers and reports
• Drafting governance papers for Committee consideration
• Attending key meetings, producing accurate and timely minutes and tracking actions
• Maintaining governance records, ensuring confidentiality and data protection compliance
• Managing and updating the governance section of the Club’s website

What You’ll Bring:

• Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Confidence building relationships across departments, senior leaders and members
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail
• Strong IT capability (Microsoft 365) and experience with CRM or database systems
• A proactive, adaptable and professional approach
• The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team
• Previous experience in governance, membership organisations or private members’ clubs is desirable but not essential. What matters most is curiosity, judgement, discretion and a desire to contribute at a high level.

Working Pattern & Reward:

• Full time or part time considered
• Hybrid working, with one work-from-home day per week (additional flexibility considered)
• Monthly evening committee meetings and occasional out-of-hours commitments
• Salary circa £50,000 FTE (40-hour week)

Benefits:

• 23 days’ annual leave (rising to 28 with service) plus Bank Holidays
• Generous contributory pension
• Life assurance, group income protection and enhanced sick pay
• Annual bonus scheme and performance review
• Free meals on duty, staff social events and free onsite parking
