Summary

A Building Control Administrator provides essential administrative support to the Building Control team who carry out the regulatory Building Control function as well as providing a customer facing role to clients, architects, builders and other departments within the council.

The work is varied and some of the day-to-day tasks that you may be expected to carry out include processing new applications, supporting existing applications, acting as a first point of contact for the department by answering telephone and email enquiries from the public, builders, architects, third party suppliers as well as other council departments, booking inspections, and updating information on the document management system. The role is a hybrid role, requiring two days a week in the office as part of a small team of support and Inspection staff. The department provides a customer support function between 08.30 and 17.00 Monday to Friday and the Business Support Team ensure that there is someone available to answer customer enquiries during these times.

The ideal candidate needs to demonstrate that they are able to work under pressure, deal with difficult customers in a calm efficient manner, follow documented procedures and escalate any issues that they encounter. It would be desirable for the candidate to have an understanding of the Building Control function, although not essential. Several types of application software are used and full training will be given, however it is essential that candidates are confident using Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel, and are familiar with processing emails.

Hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday.

This is a hybrid working role (a minimum of 2 days per week working in the office.
