A welcoming and high-performing mainstream primary school in Tunstall is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Key Stage 1, with a particular focus on Mathematics and Phonics. The Role

As a Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and senior staff to deliver targeted academic support to KS1 pupils. Through one-to-one and small-group interventions, you will help children develop strong foundations in early numeracy and literacy, while building confidence and positive learning behaviours.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one and small-group support in Phonics and Mathematics.
• Reinforce key learning objectives and support early reading and numeracy development.
• Assist teachers with lesson delivery, preparation, and classroom organisation.
• Support pupils with varying learning needs and abilities.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and independence.
• Contribute to a nurturing, inclusive, and well-structured learning environment.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

• Hold a 2:1 or above in any degree discipline (Education Maths and English-related subjects desirable).
• Demonstrate a genuine interest in primary education and early years learning.
• Show enthusiasm for supporting Phonics and early Mathematics development.
• Be patient, reliable, and approachable.
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Have prior experience working with children (desirable, but not essential).
