About the Role
As our Deputy Data Protection Officer, you will be at the heart of ensuring council-wide compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, shaping best practice and embedding a culture of robust information governance, interpreting legislation and advising on mitigating compliance risks. You’ll lead on delivering expert data protection advice internally, including advice on DPIAs, ISAs, data processing, complex subject access requests and high-risk data breaches.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
· Significant senior level data protection experience (minimum 5 years) in a large multifaceted organisation
· A deep understanding of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, PECR, FOI, EIR, ICO guidance.
· Proven ability to manage a high workload
· Very clear written and verbal communication skills
· Strong judgement and independence, able to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
· A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, plus a practitioner-level professional qualification.
· Line management and supervision of data protection staff
