Summary

The London Region has been identified as the pilot Region for the HMPPS Enable Programme. Enable is a HMPPS workforce transformation programme based on relational practice, designed to support HMPPS ambition to improve operational delivery in prisons. The Enable programme objectives include building staff capability through initial training and development offers, and transformational culture change through leadership support and a Reflective Skills Framework (RSF) for custody staff. Given the Enable programme is psychologically informed, London Psychology Services are a core part of this exciting initiative, providing input to the design, implementation and evaluation of the London Enable Pilot.

Working alongside Enable and operational colleagues, a Principal Psychologist will lead a team of Senior Psychologists (one per each London prison). The Senior Registered Psychologists appointed to each London site will work as part of London Psychology Services. Their primary focus will be on successful mobilisation and embedding of Enable activity, with opportunity to engage in developmental activity as part of the wider team.

They will have an instrumental role in supporting local understanding of the Enable programme and its intended aims and outcomes. They will work to ensure that activity across the site is interconnected and key stakeholders, including Senior Leadership Teams, are appropriately engaged and work collaboratively to achieve the programme’s outcomes and maximise opportunity for the site. They will work to create the conditions in which the Reflective Skills Framework (RSF) will have the greatest chance of success, and support implementation and delivery.

The Senior Registered Psychologist will work towards their standard job description with the expectation that certain responsibilities, activities, and duties will be a core focus of their work. It is expected that the Senior Registered Psychologists will hold line management and clinical supervision responsibilities outside of Enable. The LPS team is a supportive, collaborative, and expanding group of professionals who value teamwork, continuous learning, and wellbeing. LPS is committed to fostering an inclusive and psychologically safe environment where diversity is celebrated, and every team member can thrive. We offer a variety of challenging and rewarding work opportunities, along with robust career development pathways. Continued Professional Development is a core focus for LPS, with open learning opportunities actively promoted and encouraged.

Successful candidates will be on a fixed term contract for up to two years for the duration of the London Enable Pilot.
