Summary

About the role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Surgeon to join the General and GI Surgery Department at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT) during a pivotal phase in our organisations development. We offer a supportive, collaborative, and forward-thinking environment, with excellent opportunities for professional growth and sub-specialist development within an experienced and well-established multidisciplinary team. This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered. Additional Programmed Activities may be available. The successful candidate will receive mentoring for the first 12 months and will be supported in developing robotic surgical skills through structured departmental training opportunities. Main duties The main duties of the post will include:Emergency On-Call Commitment On-call rota: 1:9 resident, alternating between first and second on-call (paired Upper GI and Colorectal surgeons). Non-resident nights: 1:18. Consultants are expected to reside within 30 minutes of the acute site. All elective activity is cancelled during the on-call week. Separate admin time is allocated following acute work. On-call responsibilities include: Supervision and participation in emergency procedures. Post-take ward rounds. Clinical decision-making and oversight of acute admissions. Please see the attached full job description for an example weekly timetable. Essential person specification requirements To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria: Full GMC Registration with licence to practise Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for General Surgery or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent) Medical Degree from recognised medical school FRCS or equivalent (General Surgery or equivalent) Eligibility to work in the UK Sufficient experience in General SurgeryWide experience in Emergency General Surgery. Wide experience in obesity management and bariatric surgery. Computer literate Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving. Good time management.
