Summary
Clinical DutiesThe post holder is required to hold a CCT or equivalent. As such the post holder should be trained in all aspects of general paediatrics and neonatology. A special interest (SPIN) in Neonatology is essential. Any other special interests will be discussed as to how they may fit into the department and will be supported as much as possible. Participation in out of hours consultant cover for the neonatal unit on a rota (Approximately 1:8 weekdays, 1:8 weekends). On-call responsibilities will involve multidisciplinary team working across the perinatal service. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support) There is no on-site PICU but patients are stabilised in the ED or on the adult ICU whilst awaiting retrieval with support from the anaesthetic department. Where the patient is a critically unwell baby (as a guide, under 3 months of age), the neonatal team will provide critical care skills and support for stabilisation prior to retrieval by the regional Paediatric Intensive Care WATCh team. Undertaking ward rounds around the neonatal unit and transitional care unit daily, aiming, where possible, for these ward rounds to be done in partnership with the baby(ie)s parents.
