Locum MSK Consultant Radiologist - 12 Month FTC
Job Plan Commitment:10 PA
We are looking for Locum MSK Consultant Radiologist to come and join the team here at GWH on a 12 month fixed term contract.
The post is full-time, but we would consider part time applicants.
The Radiology department is well-equipped, having two 128 slice Siemens CT scanners, two 1.5T Siemens MRI scanners, digital screening rooms and updated US machines. Works are currently underway to install a new Cardiac CT scanner and a SPECT CT. We also employ regular on-site CT and MRI vans/static scanners for additional workload.
The Breast Centre is the base for the Wiltshire Breast Screening Service for Swindon, North and West Wiltshire. We screen nearly 100,000 ladies over a three-year cycle. There are two screening vans and a static facility at the Great Western Hospital. The Breast Centre also provides a symptomatic service for Swindon and Wiltshire. The department has Hologic mammography units with tomosynthesis. We are setting up a contrast enhanced mammography (CEM) service shortly. Localisations are usually done with Magseed. There is a new SPECT CT scanner in the main radiology department.
The Radiologists are a happy, functional and hard-working team. It is important to note that there is a private practice which works as a co-operative.
The post holder is required to hold a CCST or CCT. As such the post holder should be trained in all aspects of the speciality.
• Multidisciplinary team work is envisaged as a key component of the working of this Trust and will involve Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) discussion with other colleagues.
• Development of sub specialty interests that fit in with Directorate needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
• Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties are required, and for contributing to undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
We are proud to be part of BSW Hospitals Group – a formal partnership between Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. With a combined workforce of over 17, 600 colleagues, and budget of 1.6 billion the Group is united by a common purpose to deliver the best possible care to over 1 million people. We are creating a heath and care system that works with the people we care for, reducing the differences people currently face in access, experience and outcomes, improving the experience of our colleagues and tackling shared challenges like sustainability and finances. Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners.
Our on-call system now has a consultant presence from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, and for 4 hours Saturday and Sunday. Consultants remain on-call for a further 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday. Outside of these hours we are supported by an outsourced reporting company.
There is also the option for home-working computers to be set up.
All medical staff in each Directorate are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Directorate. Consultants are key members of the Directorate team and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience.
We are currently involved in the setting up of a Community Diagnostic Centre and the West of England Imaging Network.
• To support the Lead Clinician in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Directorate Management Team.
• To contribute to the leadership and development of the specialty under the direction of the Lead Clinician and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trust’s business plans.
• The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Directorate including support to the General Manager to achieve their objectives.

• As part of the Directorate Management Team, assist in the cost effective utilisation of resources, including pay and non-pay items such as equipment and drugs, within budgets.
