Summary

About us
The successful candidate will be part of the Vale Alcohol and Drug Team (VADT), which is a strength-based service for people with complex needs associated with their substance use. The team is based at Newlands Street in Barry town together with the health board’s Community Addictions Unit (CAU). We work collaboratively with individuals, working across professional and organisational boundaries to ensure that people are empowered, safeguarded and able to achieve their desired goals within the framework of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act. VADT provides assertive outreach across the Vale of Glamorgan ensuring all citizens have equal access to our service. VADT offers wellbeing assessments, harm reduction and motivational work, provision of specialist care plans, trauma informed interventions, social work student placements and work force training.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 6 – £29.540 to £32.061 per annum. £15.31 - £16.62 Per Hour
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37hrs per week. Day time hours Monday to Friday.
Main Place of Work: Newlands Street. Barry.

Description:
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is looking for a committed and compassionate Social Care Officer to join our Vale Alcohol and Drug Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals affected by substance misuse and help them achieve positive changes in their lives.

You will work as part of a dynamic and motivated team, delivering person-centred interventions and practical support to service users, their families, and carers. Your role will be key in promoting recovery, independence, and well-being within our community.

About you
We are looking for a dedicated and flexible individual to join our team.
The successful candidate will have experience working as part of a team and engaging with people in a caring capacity, whether paid or voluntary. A good understanding of disability and its impact on individuals, families, and carers is essential, alongside strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

You will demonstrate negotiation skills, creativity in problem-solving, and the ability to work under pressure. A collaborative approach is key, as you will work across agencies and relate empathetically to service users. Reliability, flexibility, and a commitment to personal development and training are vital.

Applicants must hold a good standard of general education, a full clean driving license, and be willing to travel throughout the Vale or between locations as required. You should also be prepared to work under supervision and adapt to changes in work location when necessary.
