Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is embarking on an ambitious andpound;13.6m redevelopment of its much-loved museum at the heart of the city.andnbsp;With andpound;5.2m secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF), this transformative project will deliver major changes to the museumandrsquo;s ground floor, including:

andnbsp;- A new front entrance from Mowbray Park

- Two new collection galleries featuring revitalized displays and interpretation

- Welcoming social spaces for visitors

- A vibrant community engagement hub, The Growing Space



All of this will be supported by a four-year activity plan packed with exciting events and initiatives designed to reach deep into our communities.



Led by the Senior Manager andndash; Museum Redevelopment and supported by the museum senior team within the wider Cultural Service, we are now recruiting for a Community Engagement Officer:



The Community Engagement Officer will lead outreach initiatives across the wider community to increase participation in museum activity, building knowledge and skills whilst expanding our audience base. This vital role will address barriers faced by communities who may be hesitant to engage in museum activities, and this role will work proactively to build confidence around access and engagement. A core responsibility will be delivering outreach sessions in schools, colleges, and other cultural and community settings. During the closure period, while the development works take place, this position will be essential in maintaining continuity of service and fostering new partnerships.

Additionally, the Community Engagement Officer will work across the wider museum team contributing to the councilandrsquo;s wider cultural service priorities and outcomes.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
