Summary

Family Practitioner: Keeping Families Together Team

Location: 3 Knowsley Place / Town Hall, Bury
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) flexible working between 7am and 8pm, Monday to Friday, plus Saturdays on a rota basis

About the Role

We are looking for passionate and committed Family Practitioner to join our Keeping Families Together team within Bury Children’s Social Care and Family Help Service. This innovative service provides short-term, intensive support to children, young people, and families experiencing multiple and complex challenges.

Our goal is to prevent family breakdown and help children remain safely within their family network.

As a Family Practitioner, you will hold key worker responsibility for families, delivering bespoke interventions. You will work flexibly and creatively to rebuild relationships, reduce risks, and promote sustainable change. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and families in Bury.


What You’ll Do
  • Work directly with children (aged 818) and their families to prevent accommodation or breakdown of care arrangements.
  • Undertake whole-family assessments and co-produce SMART plans with families.
  • Deliver practical, evidence-based interventions to address identified needs.
  • Support families in acute distress, using de-escalation strategies to avoid emergency care situations.
  • Build strong relationships within families and their wider networks to promote resilience and independence.
  • Work closely with social work teams, as well as partner agencies, to ensure a whole-family approach.
About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a Level 3 or above qualification in Health, Social Care, or a related field.
  • Has significant experience working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Understands child development, safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Can work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, to meet family needs.
  • Is skilled in building relationships, motivating families, and delivering positive outcomes.
