Summary


The ultrasound department at The Great Western Hospital are seeking kind, compassionate and enthusiastic people to join our team of friendly and hard-working sonographers.

We are a team of 12 sonographers that work cohesively and closely with our radiologists, nurses, clinical support workers and fellow allied health professionals. Together we focus on the four main pillars of the Great Western Hospital; Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect.

We are seeking sonographers or appropriately trained professionals who have good NHS experience in any of the following fields of ultrasound:

- Vascular

- Obstetrics

- General Medical and small parts

- Gynaecology

- Neck

- Musculo-skeletal

- Interventional

The interviews will be held face-to-face as you'll be expected to carry out a practical assessment.



To undertake a range of ultrasound examinations, within the given appointment time, in line with local and national protocols.

To promote and maintain excellent clinical standards and respond to service demands,representing the department and hospital in a professional and positive manner.

Practice unsupervised, providing an independent diagnostic report and communicate scan findings to clinician and/or patient as appropriate.

To proficiently use the required IT systems and demonstrate a high level of knowledge regarding ultrasound equipment and its application.

To analyse and communicate complex and sensitive information in a manner understandable to service users.

To provide a high level of care for patients, assessing each patient and their needs and adapting scanning technique accordingly while respecting their rights of privacy and confidentiality.

To use discretion and experience to work outside of departmental standards when clinically needed.

To help with the vetting of ultrasound requests from a variety of referrers.

To manage their own workload and help others when possible.

To be involved in audit, quality assurance and clinical governance where needed.

To contribute to the planning, organisation and smooth running of the area in which you are working, liaising with clinicians and other staff within the trust and GP practices.

To participate in out of hours rota, working unsociable hours and weekends where required

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a high-quality ultrasound service.



Be responsible for own workload and effective throughput of patients. The workload may be unpredictable.



To provide high standards of patient care in a safe, clean and tidy working environment, observing all Trust and departmental policies and to maintain professional and personal standards.



Prioritise requests using expert clinical knowledge so that patient appointments can be made within an appropriate time scale.



To comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
