Summary

A vacancy has become available to join our Grounds Maintenance Highways team in the role of an Operative Level 2.
Are you friendly, polite and willing to carry out a range of tasks, ensuring the Highways shrub beds and Grass areas of Torbay look attractive and well maintained, and are safe and clean, providing an enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Working within a team of up to three, managed by the Grounds Maintenance Team Manager, you will be directed daily by a Team Leader. Tasks will include:
• Strimming, mowing, and leaf blowing using handheld power tools.
• Cutting hedges and shrubs.
• Planting, weeding, and maintaining shrub beds.
Occasionally, you may be expected to work in other areas of Torbay or undertake different tasks to what you would normally do. This role involves outdoor work in all weather conditions, lifting and carrying, and operating in environments with potential hazards.
You will be provided with Personal Protective Clothing to wear at all times and a range of training in methods of safe working practices.
You will also be responsible for tasks which require a greater level of knowledge and experience such as:
• Ride on grass cutting machines
• Use of robotic mowers

• Ensure high-quality service delivery within agreed timeframes.
• Attend all required training sessions.
• Communicate effectively with line managers to report issues impacting service delivery.

• Provide professional and courteous customer service.
• Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.
• Safely operate vans, tractors, and small plant machinery.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications:
Skills and Effectiveness
• Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team, to include those from other teams and service areas.
• Effective ability to meet targets and demand, to include conflicting deadlines.
• Effective manual handling skills.
• Ability to take direction and work in an inclusive manner.

Knowledge

• Effective knowledge of Health & Safety processes.
• Effective knowledge of how to operate plant and machinery such as forklift truck/mowers.
Experience

• Experience of problem solving to successful outcomes.
• Able to demonstrate in-still trust to staff members at all levels, clients/customers and the general public.
Qualifications
• Full UK driving licence.
• Hold relevant plant and/or machinery operator licence,
