About the role of Design Manager
As a Design Manager, you'll take ownership of design delivery across complex new build developments, including commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed‑use schemes typically ranging from £20m-£150m. You'll work closely with preconstruction, technical, and delivery teams to ensure designs are buildable, compliant, and aligned with programme and commercial targets. You'll be part of an established design function with strong technical support and a collaborative team structure. You must be based in the Midlands and have proven experience working for a main contractor.
Responsibilities for Design Manager
* Lead design coordination across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines
* Drive buildability, risk reduction, and value engineering from early stages
* Manage design programmes, information flow, and key design deliverables
* Facilitate communication between designers, clients, subcontractors, and delivery teams
Requirements for Design Manager
* Experience working as a Design Manager or Design Coordinator within a main contractor
* Based in the Midlands, with strong knowledge of regional new build delivery
* Solid understanding of design processes, construction methodology, and multidisciplinary coordination * Ability to challenge design, manage risk, and influence early-stage decisions
* Excellent communication skills and confidence working with internal and external stakeholders
