Health and Safety Coordinator

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Are you passionate about health and safety? Do you have experience working in a hospital or are looking for a change of working environment?
#TeamMKUH are appointing a new Health and Safety Coordinator.

Within this role, you will be working closely with the Health & Safety Managers, Advisors, manual handing team and Estates team providing administrative and daily functional support. Additionally, you will co-ordinate and deliver training on Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), risk management, Violence & Abuse and health & safety.
You will be managing and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within the Board are adhered to. Knowing the RADAR/DATIX system is not a must, but desirable if you do.

To provide support to the Trust Health & Safety Team in the implementation of the Trust’s Health and Safety Agenda across the organisation and to provide advice/guidance/support to staff on health and safety matters as appropriate.

This role will provide operational support to the daily functions of the Health and Safety department including assistance with managing and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within the Board are adhered to.

Support to the Health & Safety Advisor(s)

• Provide assistance and administrative support to the Corporate Governance department and the Health & Safety Advisors in relation to all health and safety matters as required to meet compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act, related regulation and good practice requirements.

• Contribute to the improvement and maintenance of effective health and safety standards by taking a proactive approach to the development of health and safety practices to all staff across the Trust based on current health and safety requirements.

Systems & Equipment

• Responsible for the safe use of equipment used in the undertaking of their role.

• Responsible for safe use of the RADAR risk management system for health and safety risk management.

Decisions and Judgements

• Knows when to seek support or guidance from the Head of H&S

• A level of autonomy in relation to day to day management of the Health & Safety function, escalation of incidents, and problem solving

Communications and Relationships

• The job involves working closely with all managers and staff within the Trust to promote and maintain a positive health and safety culture

• Daily communication with all grades of staff will be an essential part of this job – such methods may include written, presenting and verbal

Education and Training

• To devise, co-ordinate and deliver specific health and safety training including mandatory and induction training in collaboration with the Health & Safety Advisors

• To develop, implement and provide appropriate competency based educational and supervisory program’s to effectively manage associated health and safety issues
