We’re looking for a Principal Waste Contracts Officer to take the lead in managing high-value waste management contracts and ensuring our services run efficiently and effectively.
In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operation of our waste disposal contracts, driving improvements in performance, compliance, and value for money. Working alongside the Team Managers you will also play a key part in the development of our waste contracts. Your expertise will help us deliver reliable, sustainable services for the communities we serve.

About the Role
We’re looking for a proactive and commercially minded individual to join our team and take the lead on managing key waste contracts, ensuring the delivery of reliable and cost-effective waste services.
The role requires:
- A flexible, ‘can do’ attitude
- Strong financial and problem-solving skills
- Experience in contract and service management, ideally within the waste sector
- Knowledge of procurement processes as well as budget management
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience
- The ability to travel to locations across the county.
You’ll play a vital role in driving efficiency and value for money across our services, supporting major procurement projects and ensuring compliance with all relevant rules, policies, and procedures that keep waste services running smoothly.
About You
To apply for this post, you must:
- Hold a relevant degree and/or equivalent experience in contract, procurement, and management. Or have full Chartered status of a relevant professional organisation (eg CIWM)
- Have significant experience in procurement and management of waste contracts or similar high-value service contracts.
- Understand and have experience in budget management, forecasting and reporting for significant budgets.
- Be able to interpret and create technical/non-technical reports and advise stakeholders accordingly.
- Be able to engage effectively with stakeholders, including contractors, senior colleagues, the media and be able to lead meetings.
- Be able to demonstrate excellent knowledge of waste management, waste operations and relevant legislation.
- Be able to demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation skills and a willingness to travel across the county as required.
You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
