Crynodeb

The Deputy Manager will support the Manager in the day-to-day leadership and operational management of the setting, ensuring high-quality childcare, compliance with statutory requirements, and a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all children. The role involves leading staff, supporting practice improvement, and stepping in to manage the setting in the Manager’s absence.Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Support the Manager in the overall running of the setting, ensuring smooth daily operations
Act as Manager in their absence, taking full responsibility for staff, children, and the setting
Lead, motivate, and support staff to deliver high-quality practice
Support staff supervision, inductions, mentoring, and performance management
Promote strong teamwork and positive staff engagement
Quality of Care & Practice
Ensure high standards of care, learning, and play in line with the EYFS (where applicable)
Support staff to plan engaging, inclusive activities that meet children’s individual needs
Promote safeguarding, child protection, and children’s wellbeing at all times
Ensure inclusive practice for children with additional needs
Safeguarding & Compliance
Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (or Deputy DSL, if applicable)
Ensure all safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare requirements are met
Maintain accurate records, registers, and documentation
Support inspections and monitoring visits (e.g. Ofsted, local authority)
Operational Duties
Assist with staff rotas, ratios, and cover arrangements
Support recruitment processes where required
Communicate effectively with parents, carers, schools, and external professionals
Manage behaviour positively and consistently in line with setting policies
Administration & Organisation
Support the Manager with policies, procedures, and risk assessments
Ensure confidentiality and data protection at all times
Contribute to continuous improvement and development planning
Person Specification
Essential
Level 3 qualification in Early Years / Childcare (or above). Personal Qualities
Warm, approachable, and professional
Confident leader with a supportive management style
Highly organised and reliable
Passionate about children’s learning, play, and wellbeing
Committed to continuous professional development
Safeguarding Statement

Experience supporting or leading staff
Strong knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding, and child development
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to lead by example and remain calm under pressure
Desirable
Level 5 or working towards a leadership qualification
Experience as a Deputy Manager, Room Leader, or Senior Practitioner
Knowledge of Ofsted requirements and inspections
Paediatric First Aid (or willingness to train)
