Overview
The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to the need with increasing numbers of students and trainees and commitment to offer the best educational experience for our trainees. There is a real need to ensure that students receive excellent tuition and that trainees have the best possible educational supervision. In line with our Education Strategy, we intend to improve education by building an Education Fellow faculty base made up of Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate training and support Inter-professional Innovations.
Barts Health Simulation Service has three dedicated Simulation and Essential Clinical Skills Centres based at Newham University Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital and the Royal London Hospital. Each of these centres has a proud history of being innovative and award winning. These departments are teaching areas with fully equipped simulation and clinical skills teaching and Haptic Clinical Skills facilities
The successful post holder for this post will be involved primarily with developing educational opportunities for Anaesthetic and Intensive Care Trainees at Whipps Cross Hospital through a wide range of teaching modalities including simulation based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics, a bedside teaching. The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows. All our fellows are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. For those who already have this there will be an opportunity to undertake ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course). Funding will be available towards supporting this.
This would typically suit anyone wishing to undertake further training in a medical specialty and education prior to or as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) and/or Out of Programme Training from their Specialist Registrar training programme. Prior agreement must be sought with the relevant Specialty Training Committee (STC) and Deanery.

The post would be based at the Whipps Cross University Hospital and is part of Barts NHS Trust.
Whipps Cross Hospital provides the full range of local general hospital services as well as ophthalmology, maxillofacial surgery and hyperbaric medicine.The Maternity Department includes Special Care Baby Unit, together with two operating theatres. There are approximately 5500 deliveries per year. The nationally recognised 9-bedded Intensive Therapy Unit and 6 bedded high dependency unit.
The contract is 12 month, fixed-term and is 20 hours Clinical time which will be undertaken for service delivery within anaesthesia, labour ward and intensive care and 16 hours Education and service delivery time. This is a 36 hour week contract with no on calls as part of this post.

The post holder would be responsible for their own personal development plan, with regards to educational work. Regular appraisal must be undertaken with their clinical supervisor, and Director of Medical Education/Specialty Tutor/ Simulation Lead
