The Role

We're looking for an Engineering Technical Manager to play a key role in shaping and maintaining our engineering standards, documentation, and best practices. You'll act as a technical bridge between the Head of Design Engineering, senior designers, and wider engineering teams, ensuring our design outputs are consistent, compliant, and continually improving.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership position, ideal for someone with strong solar PV engineering experience, excellent documentation skills, and a passion for quality and continuous improvement.



Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

-Maintain and manage engineering documentation, standards, and processes.

-Provide technical updates, guidance, and best‑practice feedback to the design team.

-Review and challenge unclear or incomplete information in design packs.

-Lead the distribution and communication of new or updated documentation.

-Support training programmes across the design team.

-Collaborate closely with the Quality, Commissioning & Maintenance (QCM) team and the Quality Engineer (QE).

-Act as the primary technical point of contact for senior designers.

-Create performance guarantee standards and review client-submitted versions.

-Attend site visits where required and approved.

-Perform random design spot checks and quality audits, providing written reports.

-Support attendance at industry events, technical exhibitions, and technology showcases.

-Help ensure the design team remains aligned with the latest industry developments, standards, and technologies.



About You

Essential Skills & Experience

-Strong background in solar PV design, engineering, or technical management.

-Excellent understanding of engineering documentation, standards, and quality control.

-Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively.

-Confident in challenging design details and ensuring high standards are upheld.

-Strong organisational skills with experience supporting team training or technical workshops.

-Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence and support multi‑disciplinary teams.

-Excellent understanding of the BS 7671 and the IET best practice guide to Solar PV

-Excellent understanding of RC62, FM global, Loss prevention standards and the like.



Beneficial

-Experience within a growing engineering or renewable energy department.

-Understanding of commissioning, O&M, or quality assurance activities.

-Familiarity with performance guarantee modelling or client technical documentation.



Required Qualifications

-18th Edition

-QCF level 4 (e.g. City and guilds 2396 Design)

-QCF level 3 (e.g. electrical installations, testing and inspection; City and guilds 2391-52)
