Summary
This is an exciting time to join the Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust, a group of 3 hospitals under one Trust board to become part of a friendly, dynamic and close-knit team that provides patient focus care.
Our adult Critical Care is a large and busy unit, the case mix reflects a busy district general hospital which also supports regional vascular surgical, cardiology and the renal services. We are supported by a large, well established ARCU (Acute Respiratory Care Unit) with a large negative pressure capability and a high-performing Critical Care Outreach Team.
This is an open unit that encourages other specialties to be involved in the care of their patients, whilst they are being supported in Critical Care.
This is a development post, with full training provided within the team over a 2 year period, with the option of progression within Adult Critical Care. A comprehensive in-house training plan will be place and personal development will be encouraged.
A Consultant will provide support throughout your training as a dedicated mentor, this will ensure that continuity is provided and maintained. There will be regular meetings throughout your training period where learning objectives and educational needs will be discussed.

On a day-to-day basis you will work under the direction of the Consultant on call, you will participate in the morning safety huddle and handover, Consultant lead ward rounds to review critical care patients alongside the bedside nurse and the nurse in charge. You will also be working closely with others in the team including Clinicians, Nursing, Dietitians, physiotherapist, and psychotherapist.
You will support patient care by following the Consultant management plan, including but not limited to the ordering of investigations, chasing of results, practical procedures, and usual administration tasks (making referrals, telephoning other specialty teams and written communications including discharge summaries and transfer letters.
You will be encouraged to be involved in the review of patients referred to critical care (at the direction of the consultant) and presentation of cases to the consultant and the initial stabilization and management of patients referred to and admitted to critical care.
You will attend medical emergency, cardiac arrest and trauma calls, transfer critically ill patients (inter and intra-hospital transfers).
