Summary
Abstract all the necessary information relating to inpatient activity including diagnoses and surgical procedures from both the case notes and the Trusts electronic systems and input this into the patient administration system in a timely manner, ensuring coding deadlines are met. Translate clinical information into appropriate codes from various sources, adhering to national and local coding rules and conventions. Demonstrate a commitment to developing coding expertise, working alone and correctly prioritising clinical codes, attending in house workshops and external courses as advised. Maintain and improve personal knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Keep up to date with coding rules and conventions and pass yearly clinical coding audit Raise information queries with responsible clinicians Raise coding queries with appropriate senior staff to ensure consistency and quality of clinical coding data. Respond promptly and positively to requests for coding information from internal and or external information requests Support and motivate junior members of staff in the department. Be a flexible member of the Performance and Informatics Team, providing assistance to other staff within the department and covering the work of colleagues during the periods of absence or peak workloads. To develop and maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in NHS information standards and definitions. Participate in appraisal and personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives Participate in appropriate training and development activities and maintain a good understanding of available new technologies/techniques Ensure all processes have written current procedures and that they are followed and always maintained, offering suggestions for improvements to the process as appropriate Participating in presentations to key stakeholders within Performance and Informatics where require Take part in presentations relating to role To undertake any other duties as required in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.
