HLTA Job Description Summary
A Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) takes on greater responsibility than a standard TA, often acting as a bridge between support staff and teachers.

Job Overview
Core Role: To support teachers by leading whole-class learning, planning interventions, and managing classroom activities.

Key Duty: Covering planned teacher absences (PPA time) by delivering pre-prepared lessons independently.

Impact: Boosting student attainment through targeted support for individuals or small groups.

Key Requirements
Education: GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths is mandatory.

Experience: Usually requires 2+ years of classroom experience and a track record of supporting diverse learning needs.

Certification: Must hold or be working towards official HLTA Status (meeting the 33 Professional Standards).

Skills: Strong behavior management, lesson delivery, and the ability to mentor other support staff.

Vetting: A clear Enhanced DBS check is required for all UK school roles.
