The prescription administrator will play a key role in supporting safe and effective patient care through the management of prescriptions, pathology results and clinical documentation. They will act as a central point of contact between patients and clinicians, ensuring high standards of accuracy, confidentiality and governance in line with NHS and CQC requirements Key responsibilities: Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice policy and prescribing protocols Issue authorised repeat medications accurately and within agreed timescales Identify and appropriately action prescription requests that fall outside repeat prescribing parameters Liaise with GPs and other clinicians regarding prescription queries, medication changes and medication reviews Monitor and manage urgent prescription requests, escalating concerns appropriately Respond to patient enquires regarding prescriptions both face-to-face and via the telephone Communicate clearly, sensitively and professionally with patients regarding medication issues, delays or clinical queries. Act as a point of contact between patients, clinicians and community pharmacies Promote the appropriate use of online repeat dispensing and electronic prescribing where applicable Manage the daily workflow of pathology and investigation results Identify abnormal or urgent results and book in line with practice protocols Support follow up actions such as patient contact, recalls or further appointments instructed by clinicians Process incoming clinical correspondence, letters and documents in a timely manner Accurately code, scan and attach documents to patient electronic records Ensure all documentation is handled in line with confidentiality GDPR and data protection requirements Maintain accurate and up to date patient records using the clinical system Adhere to practice policies, NHS guidelines and CQC standards at all times Support audit activity related to prescribing, document management and results handling Contribute to the continuous improvement of prescribing, administrative and clinical support processes Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, staff and business information at all times. Comply with GDPR, Caldicott principles and practice confidential policies Ensure information is only shared with authorised individuals in accordance with practice procedures Health & Safety: The post holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own health, safety and security and that of others by: Complying with the Health & Safety Act 1974 Following practice health and safety, infection control and fire safety policies Identifying risks in the workplace and reporting hazards promptly Maintaining clean, safe and tidy working and patient areas Undertaking mandatory infection control and health & safety training annually Equality & Diversity: Support equality, diversity and human rights for patients, carers and colleagues Treat all individuals with dignity, respect and sensitivity Act in a non-judgemental and inclusive manner in line with legislation and practice policy Personal & Professional Development: Participate in annual appraisals and performance reviews Take responsibility for own learning, development and performance Complete all mandatory training within required timescales Maintain evidence of training and development for HR records Quality & Service Improvement: Maintain high standards of quality and patient safety Identify and report risks or concerns relating to quality or governance Reflect on own performance and contribute to team effectiveness Suggest improvements to enhance service delivery and patient experience Manage own time, workload and resources effectively Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, carers, clinicians and colleagues Recognise and respond to patients needs for alternative communication methods Support clear, timely and professional internal and external communication Apply practice policies, standards and guidance consistently Participate in audits and service reviews where appropriate Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team and external agencies Other information: Overtime to cover annual leave and sickness is an essential part of the role and will be expected Enrolment into the NHS Pension Scheme Blue light card eligibility Free staff car parking at both practice sites Opportunities for professioanl development and trianng
