Summary
Cultural Services provides and supports mental, emotional and social wellbeing, and contributes to the Golden Thread of corporate objectives, particularly statutory service outcomes - early intervention / prevention, poverty, deprivation, rurality and equalities. People highly value the opportunities that the services provide, facilitate and promote, either directly or in collaboration with partners, as the benefits and positive impacts experienced from accessing these services increases wellbeing, enabling healthy, independent lives.
StoriPowys is the collective term for library, museum and archive services managed by Powys County Council. This includes:
fourteen public libraries
four museums
Powys Archives in Llandrindod Wells.
In addition, we support four community-run libraries and work with a range of local and national arts partners to provide opportunities for wellbeing, learning and culture in our physical and digital spaces.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new Cultural Services community engagement team who will work with the people of Powys to build meaningful and fulfilling connections to museums, libraries, archives and the arts, focussing on improving wellbeing and helping people lead happier and healthier lives.
Our collective and collaborative aim is to ensure that we work across all communities to support accessibility and inclusivity for all. In addition to leading the team, the Team Leader will particularly focus on engaging with arts partners.
About the role:
To be responsible for the management of the Cultural Services Community Engagement team. To seek out and maximise opportunities for joint working between the council and arts partners. To lead for Cultural Services in the delivery and development of engagement activities and programmes, creatively engaging customers with a range of digital and physical resources in ways that encourage a love of history, culture, reading, knowledge, and lifelong learning.
About you:
Proven sector experience within the Cultural Sector
Experience of Community Engagement work
Experience of building successful collaborative working with partners and other agencies that command respect, trust and confidence
Knowledge of how cultural services positively impacts and benefits health & wellbeing of people
Excellent leadership and motivational skills that encourage commitment from others
Excellent ICT skills – able to draft well produced reports, and use a range of ICT applications and tools
What you will do:
Manage the Community Engagement Team in developing and creating inclusive and stimulating wellbeing engagement programmes that help shape the visitor experience with high quality activities, bringing new and diverse visitors to museums, libraries and archives
Seek out and maximise opportunities for joint working between the council and arts partners. To be the point of contact with local and regional arts organisations, individual artists and creatives, council services and the public.
Seek out and foster external partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders that will help promote literacy, learning and enjoyment in cultural participation. Actively promote and market the use of cultural facilities through a range of means
Be responsible for developing and promoting Cultural Services online tools to the arts sector, including What’s On, Creative Directory and Creative Toolkit
Work collaboratively across the Social Services and Wellbeing Directorate and wider authority to engage and promote the benefits of cultural services for wellbeing. To link with relevant transformation projects, plans and strategies to raise awareness of Cultural Services
The post will also support the social model for care, linking with physical and mental health agendas, through working with colleagues in sport and leisure and across wider Community Wellbeing services.
