Summary
Neway International are seeking an Internal Communications and Engagement Officer to join our client based with the London Borough of Islington.
Location: Town Hall, Islington
Hours: 35 hours per week (09:00–17:30)
Start Date: 26 January 2026
End Date: 20 April 2026 (likely to be extended)
Work Pattern: Standard office hours
Rate: PAYE £26.26 per hour / Umbrella £34.73 per hour

The Role
The Internal Communications and Engagement Officer will support the delivery of clear, engaging, and timely communications to staff across the council. You will help shape internal messaging, support organisational campaigns, and ensure employees are well‑informed about key initiatives, changes, and priorities. This role requires excellent writing skills, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, draft, and deliver high‑quality internal communications across a range of channels including newsletters, intranet content, staff briefings, and digital platforms.
Support the planning and delivery of internal engagement campaigns aligned with organisational priorities.
Work closely with senior leaders, managers, and service areas to ensure consistent and effective messaging.
Manage and update internal communication channels, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and engaging.
Assist with staff events, engagement sessions, and internal campaigns, including logistics, planning, and content creation.
Monitor staff feedback and engagement levels, contributing insights to improve communication approaches.
Ensure all communications reflect the council’s values, tone, and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Provide advice and support to colleagues on internal communication best practice.
Contribute to crisis or urgent communications as required.
Candidate Requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing clear and engaging content.
Experience in internal communications, engagement, PR, or a related field.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑moving environment.
Confident working with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to use digital communication tools and platforms effectively.
Creative, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive communication.
