We are looking for a warm, reliable and enthusiastic PA to support a sociable 13-year-old boy who loves life, laughter and getting out and about. This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys building genuine connections and making a real difference to a young person’s everyday experiences.
The young person you will be supporting has a great sense of humour and enjoys joking around with those he feels comfortable with. He is very sociable and loves spending time with others, particularly watching people play computer games with him. He also enjoys creative activities such as painting, with a bit of help, and he loves trips out, especially swimming and visits to the zoo.
The role involves providing support during weekends for respite, as well as one evening during the week to assist with his shower routine. It would be ideal if you are able to administer his medication, and full training will be required in moving and handling, buccal medication, general medication, and PEG care.
A full UK driving licence is essential, as you will be expected to drive his Motability van, which is covered by an open insurance policy. Confidence, patience and a positive attitude are just as important as practical skills, as this role is as much about companionship and encouragement as it is about care.
If you are someone who enjoys working with teenagers, has a good sense of humour, and is looking for a meaningful role where no two days are the same, this could be a fantastic opportunity to become an important part of a young person’s life.
Duties include:
- Medication prompting/administering
- Personal grooming
- Moving and handling
- Other relevant duties as required
- Transportation
- Companionship
- Bathroom assistance
Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Creative
- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
Notes:
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.
If you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.
Please note: If you do not hear back within three weeks of applying, unfortunately your application has not been successful on this occasion.
