Summary
Job Title: Fabricator (MIG)
Location: Birtley, Gateshead
Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time
Salary: £33,957pa, plus 20% Shift Allowance
Shifts: 2 shift rotation
We’re seeking a skilled Fabricator/Welder with experience in volume manufacturing, automotive, or engineering environments. This is a permanent opportunity to join a values-driven team delivering high-quality fabrication to tight specifications.
The Role – Fabricator
As a Fabricator, you’ll work within a hydraulic tack weld fixture, fabricating components that can weigh up to 4.8 tonnes.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Setting up jigs for the correct model and loading piece parts using overhead cranes.
• Positioning components accurately on datum points and securing them with hydraulic clamps.
• Performing tack welding (4mm–8mm fillet welds, up to 300mm in length) to maintain structural integrity before robotic or manual welding.
• Supporting the operation of Komatsu robotic welding systems, including loading and unloading.
This role is all about fabrication accuracy, ensuring every component meets strict quality standards before moving to the next stage.
About You – Fabricator
You’re a skilled fabricator who takes pride in precision work. Ideally, you have:
• Time-served experience in fabrication, welding, or heavy engineering.
• Strong MIG welding skills (bare wire).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings confidently.
• Experience working with large components and overhead cranes.
• A commitment to safety and quality in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility to work a 2-shift pattern and willingness for overtime is essential.
