Overview
The Data Protection Team sits within the Service Transformation Group (STG), which is responsible for building and delivering a strategic vision for modernising and digitising legacy systems across the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and its agencies.
Security and information management are fundamental to enabling the department to operate securely, lawfully and transparently. The team works collaboratively across MoJ, Government Security Group and external partners to identify, manage and mitigate security, data protection and information risks, while providing assurance and building capability across the department.
Team Profile
The Data Protection Team's remit covers MoJ Headquarters, five Executive Agencies and 12 Arm's Length Bodies. Core responsibilities include:

Monitoring and overseeing compliance with data protection legislation and MoJ personal data policies

Advising on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)

Acting as the primary point of contact with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Handling data subject rights requests, including access, rectification, restriction and erasure of personal data
Summary of the Role
Reporting to the Data Protection Business Delivery Manager, the Data Protection Team Co-ordinator plays a key role in coordinating how the department manages personal data. The postholder will promote adherence to information legislation and provide guidance across a wide range of business areas within the MoJ.
Key Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

Ensure activities within the data compliance tool are completed to a high standard and within agreed service level agreements

Provide in-depth guidance to end users on systems, services and functionality

Administer data protection incidents and coordinate departmental responses to regulatory bodies

Support the resolution of outstanding work with internal and external teams

Collate business impact information and provide regular, tailored updates

Prepare communications on status, resolution and business impact for internal and external stakeholders

Liaise closely with Data Protection Team colleagues and Information Assurance teams

Manage the Data Protection Team mailbox and allocate incoming requests appropriately

Prioritise and manage workflow to meet competing demands
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience-
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify appropriate solutions and preventative measures, taking accountability for decisions made

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver at pace

Ability to actively contribute to the wider data protection community, networking and engaging with colleagues

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful working relationships with users

An understanding of information legislation, including the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR (desirable but not essential)

A recognised data protection or GDPR qualification (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM)
