Summary

Job Vacancy: Educational Psychologist (EP) – Professional Consultant (Post-16 SEND)
Organisation: British Creative Institute (BCI)
Location (on-site): 6 Dyas Road, Great Barr, Birmingham, B44 8SF
Commitment: 2 hours, once per week (day/time agreed)
Contract type: Sessional / consultancy (ideal for self-employed EPs already providing services to the education sector)
Pay: Above National Minimum Wage, commensurate with qualifications and experience (sessional rate agreed on appointment)

Role purpose
BCI is seeking an experienced Educational Psychologist to provide weekly, on-site consultation and targeted support for post-16 SEND learners (typically 16–25), including learners under 18 (therefore safeguarding duties apply). This includes advice that strengthens provision, wellbeing, engagement, outcomes, and EHCP-informed practice, aligned to statutory safeguarding expectations for colleges.
Key duties (weekly consultancy focus)
• Provide EP consultation to support learners with complex SEND profiles (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, trauma, communication needs, sensory needs).
• Observe learners (where appropriate) and advise staff on evidence-informed strategies and reasonable adjustments.
• Support EHCP implementation and contribute to preparation for reviews (advice, summaries, recommendations).
• Produce clear professional notes and/or written advice (as commissioned) that is suitable for multi-agency use.
• Liaise professionally with parents/carers and external professionals where consent and information-sharing protocols apply.
• Offer staff guidance/training (bite-sized, practical) to embed psychologically informed practice.

Essential requirements (must have)
• HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the appropriate scope to practise as an Educational Psychologist (protected title requirements apply).
• Recognised qualification pathway (typically a professional doctorate or equivalent route as required for educational psychologists). (Regulated Professions Service)
• Proven, recent experience working with post-16 SEND learners (16–25), including complex needs and barriers to attendance/engagement.
• Strong report-writing skills: clear recommendations that are practical in a college setting.
• Confident, professional communication and ability to work collaboratively with SEND teams and teaching staff.
Compliance, safeguarding, and vetting (mandatory)
BCI operates safer recruitment and safeguarding expectations in line with statutory guidance for schools and colleges. Appointment will be subject to appropriate checks, including:
• Enhanced DBS (and children’s barred list check where the role meets “regulated activity” criteria).
• Identity verification, right to work in the UK, and verification of professional qualifications (and additional checks if you have lived/worked overseas).
• Understanding and adherence to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) expectations, including following the college’s safeguarding systems and reporting routes.
• Up-to-date professional indemnity insurance (and public liability insurance where applicable for contractors).
• Commitment to confidentiality, information-sharing protocols, and data protection.

Desirable
• Experience contributing to EHCP processes and multi-agency planning.
• Experience supporting learners with emotionally based school/college avoidance (EBSA), anxiety, trauma, or complex mental health presentations.
• Ability to deliver short staff workshops / consultative drop-ins.
How to apply
Please email the following to jobs@fastispeed.com:
1. CV (including recent post-16 SEND experience)
2. Proof of HCPC registration (registration number)
3. Copies of relevant qualifications (doctorate/equivalent)
4. Two professional references (and one character reference preferred)
5. Evidence of DBS status (certificate number/date and/or Update Service status — a new check may still be required)

Safeguarding statement: BCI is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and contractors to share this commitment.
