About the College Hartlepool Sixth Form is the top performing Sixth Form college in the North East for student achievement, with 100% pass rate for over 30 courses and 98% of our student progressing to either College or employment. Here in Hartlepool, we have been delivering highly successful courses for more than 50 years as the only dedicated sixth form college in the area. Situated on the outskirts of the town centre, we have excellent facilities for both academic and vocational study with excellent sports facilities, fully equipped science labs, and have recently invested in a new digital academy and a health simulation ward.
About the Role We are seeking to appoint a part time Science Technician with a Physics specialism to join a collaborative and successful team of A-Level subject-specialists within the Sixth Form based in Hartlepool. About the Candidate The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate engaging and innovative planning of and assistance with curriculum-based Science practical’s, to ensure positive outcomes for learners. A high focus on ongoing evaluation and reflection, to ensure outstanding lab-practical advancements within the Sixth Form, is essential. This position requires versatility and adaptability, as well as the essential support for both teaching staff and students in lab-practicals. You must have a commitment to technician-specific upskilling, professional development, and to collaborate with schools, HE institutions, as well as with industry. Role Responsibilities • Maintenance and development of appropriate curriculum-based practicals and associated documentation. • Engagement in appropriate technician-upskilling professional development and essential responsibilities. • Development of curriculum-based practicals, including engagement with HE institutions and industry. • Effective and objective approach to maintaining an organised, well-stocked technician’s prep-room, with frequent stock-checks and collation of required materials for order. • Ensure a strong focus of lab and technician prep-room health and safety in line with college protocols, HASAWA & COSHH. Qualifications • Level 2 English and maths • Appropriate qualification attributed to the role of a Science Technician • Up to date Continuous Professional Development and industry upskilling record. Essential Skills & Experience • Breadth of science-related and lab-practical experience and knowledge • Development of clear and objective laboratory risk assessments, to evidence a strong focus on the risks and safety implications of a science lab Desirable Skills & Experience – (Optional) • Confidence in the use and demonstration of advanced equipment and technology in the lab • Evidence the ability to plan and facilitate practical activity within the FE/Post-16 sector What’s in it for you?
