Summary
The Estates Hard FM Team plays a vital role in ensuring our hospitals remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose. We are responsible for the delivery of day-to-day repairs, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and operational testing across a wide range of building services and equipment throughout the Trust.
We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Building Fabrication Craftsperson to join our multi-skilled Estates team at Mile End Hospital and Royal London Hospital Retained Estate, providing essential operational maintenance services across the Trust’s hospitals and associated sites.
What we’re looking for
· A flexible and proactive team player with a strong trade background in carpentry and building fabric maintenance, complemented by experience in painting, decorating, and plastering.
· Ability to work across multiple sites, demonstrating problem-solving skills, initiative, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
· Willingness to participate in the Estates emergency on-call rota, which includes out-of-hours cover across all Barts Health NHS Trust sites.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in their work and wishes to make a meaningful contribution to the upkeep and improvement of healthcare environments.
This is a varied and rewarding role requiring a strong background in building trades, ideally supported by a recognised carpentry/building services apprenticeship (or equivalent), along with proven post-qualification experience in a complex building services environment.
Key responsibilities will include:
· Undertaking a wide range of painting and decorating tasks, including internal and external painting, wallpaper hanging, plastering, patch repairs, surface preparation, and finishing to a high standard.
· Carrying out statutory and planned maintenance to ensure compliance with HTMs, HBNs, Health & Safety regulations, ACOPs, and Trust policies.
· Skilled use of woodworking machinery and hand tools for the manufacture and repair of windows, doors, and access frames.
· Installation of stud partitioning, ceilings, and other building fabric structures.
· Maintenance and repair of building elements and associated equipment using timber, laminates, plastics, composites, and other suitable materials.
· Delivering safe, immediate, and effective repairs to the building fabric with minimal supervision, while adhering to statutory obligations and operational specifications.
