Summary
SEMH Teaching Assistant - Full Time (Long Term)
Location- Birkenhead
Monday to Friday
Pay £90-£100
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with severe challenging behaviour in a specialist educational setting. This is a full-time, long-term position, ideal for individuals with a strong background in behaviour management and supporting vulnerable young people.
This role would particularly suit youth workers, ex-army/military personnel, or professionals with experience working in high-pressure environments who are calm, consistent, and confident in setting boundaries.
Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.
The Role:
· Supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
· Working closely with pupils who display severe and complex challenging behaviour
· Providing 1:1 and small group support
· Implementing behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
· Building positive, trusting relationships with students
· Supporting learning, emotional regulation, and social development
· Working collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff
Essential Requirements:
· Proven experience working with challenging behaviour (SEMH, PRU, alternative provision, care, youth work, or similar)
· Childcare experience is essential
· Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
· Resilience, patience, and a calm, authoritative approach
· Ability to work consistently Monday to Friday in a school environment
Additional requirements:
o References confirming suitability for role
o Commitment to Safeguarding
o Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service
o Eligibility to work in the UK
