Summary

Neway International are seeking a Principal Planner to join our client, the Royal Borough of Kingston, based at Guildhall 2.

The Role
As a Principal Planner, you will lead on complex planning applications and provide professional expertise to support Kingston’s development management function. You will play a key role in shaping the borough’s future growth, ensuring compliance with planning legislation and delivering excellent outcomes for residents and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Manage and determine complex planning applications, including major developments.

Provide professional planning advice to applicants, stakeholders, and colleagues.

Lead on policy interpretation and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for committees and senior officers.

Support junior staff and contribute to team development.

Help reduce backlogs and manage incoming applications efficiently.

Candidate Requirements
Significant experience in development management within a local authority or similar setting.

Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policies, and procedures.

Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and deliver high-quality outcomes.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
