Summary

The East Midlands is seeking to recruit to 2 x 2 session APD posts. We are looking for enthusiastic GP educators to work in our senior team. Whilst they are advertised as fixed term contracts until the end of this year financial year (31/03/26), we are hopeful that we will be able to extend them further subject to funding. The successful applicants will be expected to be able to travel across the East Midlands.

Both posts are 2 sessions and for both posts we expect attendance at our monthly APD meetings which are on a Wednesday and full contribution to the senior team.

The bulk of educator development and many of the core meetings happen on a Wednesday so availability on a Wednesday would be ideal.

Post 1 APD For Faculty Development. We are looking for a dynamic and innovative educator to oversee the CPD of the existing Faculty. With nearly 100 TPDs, 16 APDs, 2 HoS and 1000 ESs and Cs we are hoping to streamline the educational opportunities on offer. The successful candidate will oversee the content and running of our biannual Trainer Updates, our APD and TPD development days, our APD monthly meetings and carry out a Training needs analysis of our Educational Supervisors and Clinical Supervisors looking at our support to trainers at Programme and Central level. We need a strategist able to look at the bigger picture and horizon scan.

Post 2 APD for Trainee Support. We are looking for a senior educator with skills at supporting doctors in difficulty and an interest in the breadth of the trainee experience.

We usually have 5-10 doctors at any one time who for a variety of reasons need support from a senior educator and a monthly catch up. The successful candidate would be expected to attend our monthly update meetings with the Lead Employer, provide regular updates for ROAG (Responsible Officer Advisory Group) and attend from time. They would also liaise with trainees, training programmes and educators to ensure optimal outcomes and where possible to represent the GP School at LTFT meetings and attend the Resident doctor forum meetings.

Our work supports the NHS to deliver high quality services for patients and best value for taxpayers.

Our staff bring expertise across hundreds of specialisms — including clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:
• Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities
• Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential
• Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
• Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
• Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, leading to full integration. The aim is to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and eliminates waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the recruitment process.

You can find further details about the role, including key responsibilities and accountabilities, alongside the organisational structure and person specification in the attached Job Description and other supporting documents.
