Summary

2 x 2 session TPD posts being recruited to support GP expansion and structured learning across the East Midlands until 31.03.26. We hope that further funding will be made available to extend the post end date.

The GP TPDs for Expansion & Structured Learning programmes will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of innovative training programmes for General Practitioners (GPs) based in the East Midlands.

Please note that although some work may be completed remotely, there will be regular travel required around the East Midlands.

Remuneration will be at GP00-GP01 point of national GP educator pay scale.

We encourage and welcome applications from early career GP educators.

The successful applicant will work with other TPDs and ADs to provide:

Programme development and management
• Design, development and review of teaching resources in line with trainee feedback, curriculum updates, and emerging best practice.
• Ensure resources are adaptable for different stages of GP training and accessible for diverse trainee needs.
• Support for GP registrars based on feedback and educational outcomes.

Teaching delivery
• Teaching delivery, both in-person and remotely
• Identify and implement opportunities to innovate in teaching methods.

Collaboration and Communication
• Liaise with residents, Educational Supervisors, programme managers, Training Programme Directors and APDs to ensure smooth running of the programme
• Engage with regional NHSE teams
• Engagement with other relevant stakeholders

Administration
• Maintain accurate records of teaching activities, attendance, and trainee progress.
• Contribute to logistical planning.

Evaluation

Our work supports the NHS to deliver high quality services for patients and best value for taxpayers.

Our staff bring expertise across hundreds of specialisms — including clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:
• Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities
• Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential
• Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
• Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
• Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, leading to full integration. The aim is to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and eliminates waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the recruitment process.

This role is a great opportunity to join a dynamic team supporting the Primary Care Dean and GP Heads of School in improving learner experience and safety, and ultimately the patient experience in the East Midlands.

Please note role responsibilities are not limited to the areas listed above – as with all TPD roles, you may be asked to work flexibly to support wider GP training within the East Midlands.

You can find further details about the role, including key responsibilities and accountabilities, alongside the organisational structure and person specification in the attached Job Description and other supporting documents.
