An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 5 Field Service Clinical Technologist to join our Community Technical Services in delivering Clinical Engineering services to the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust throughout Cambridgeshire and in the community throughout East Anglia.

Clinical Engineering is primarily concerned with providing medical device management services in terms of procurement, repair, calibration and maintenance to a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment. It is the responsibility of Clinical Engineering to ensure equipment operates effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime. Clinical equipment covered incorporates electrical, electronic, mechanical, computer software and medical gas systems. The department works to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 quality standards and is responsible for the management of over 60,000 medical devices used across the hospital and in the community.

The post is one of a number within Community Technical Services in Clinical Engineering.

Applicants should possess HNC/HND/Relevant degree or the equivalent level of knowledge/experience in electrical/electronic/mechanical engineering. In the event of candidates not meeting the required qualifications/experience or skill at Band 5 criteria in the first instance, consideration will be given to candidates for Annex 21 under NHS terms and Conditions of Service Handbook and be expected to undertake a full training program.

You will work in a busy team undertaking a wide range of specialised technical engineering work and will have technical responsibility for a broad range of work and be expected to work at a high level of skill to resolve complex technical issues. You will carry out scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, calibration, safety and acceptance testing on a wide range of medical devices. You will also be required to work to extremely high standards of workmanship, safety and accountability within a quality management system and will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy.

You will liaise with clinical and technical staff to identify faults and repair equipment, including working in all clinical areas and with manufacturers. The post holder will oversee trainee medical technical staff and provide direction whilst working with healthcare providers to provide maintenance and repair services across remote sites throughout the East of England. Due to this you will require a suitable driving licence (minimum 6 months driving experience post achieving a full licence, evidence of driving licence will be required when interviewed).
