This is an exciting time to join the pathology team in Dorset. We are currently making great progress with our vision to create a first class integrated pathology service for Dorset.

The 'One Dorset Pathology' service Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals will provide clinicians, patients and carers with a consistent and high standard of service across the area and maximise efficiency in the use of resources.

Staff will be able to develop to their full potential and substantial investment has been agreed, offering opportunities for service development and state-of-the-art modernisation.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our friendly Blood Sciences team at Dorset County Hospital. The hospital is located in the county town of Dorchester which is eight miles from the Jurassic coastline and award winning beach. The department of Blood Sciences encompasses Blood Transfusion, Haematology and Biochemistry and the ideal candidate would have a specialism in one of these areas with a willingness to explore and train in other areas.

The department has IBMS training approval, UKAS ISO15189:2022 accreditation and encourages professional development.

Consideration will be given to current band 5 candidates who are pursuing further study who could be employed at annex 21.

Please note – Non HCPC Registered Applications will not be considered. This post is for currently registered BMS staff only.

The successful applicant will have experience in Biochemistry and/or Haematology & Blood Transfusion. The department operates a combined Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry service and after training you will be expected to become integrated as a full member of the busy department working flexibly within an 37.5 hour week. Participation in the 24/7 shift system, once trained, is expected and brings an additional payment at agenda for change pay rates.

The department provides a wide range of investigations to Hospital clinicians, Community Services and and General Practitioners. As a multidiscipline environment the department can offer the successful candidate a role with a more holistic view of blood sciences. We have supported staff to study for a wide range of qualifications including BBTS, MSc, and specialist portfolio.

The laboratories are approved for HCPC training and are accredited to ISO15189:2012.
