Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

To lead and deliver high-quality teaching and provision for up to 8 pupils with ASD and/or SEMH within the school’s designated provision. The post holder will create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes engagement, independence, and academic and personal development in line with individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

• Plan and deliver a broad and balanced curriculum tailored to the individual needs, interests, and learning styles of pupils with ASD/SEMH.
• Adapt lessons effectively to support a wide range of abilities and complex needs.
• Use strategies that promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and resilience.
• Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of pupils in line with school and statutory requirements.
• Employ a trauma-informed, relationship-based approach to support emotional and social development.

Leadership and Management of the Provision:

• Lead the day-to-day management of the designated provision, ensuring it is safe, inclusive, and nurturing.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the provision in collaboration with the SENCO and senior leaders.
• Line manage and provide direction and support to teaching assistants or support staff working within the provision.
• Monitor the impact and effectiveness of the provision and implement improvements where necessary.
• Attend extra curricular events to support the inclusion of DP pupils in the wider life of the school

Pupil Support and Welfare:

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with pupils based on trust, consistency, and respect.
• Work closely with families, external professionals, and multi-agency partners to ensure holistic support.
• Develop and regularly review personalised learning and behaviour support plans.
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils, following school policies and procedures with the additional responsibility of named deputy designated safeguarding lead.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

• Participate actively in continuous professional development focused on SEND, ASD, SEMH, and trauma-informed practice.
• Collaborate with mainstream staff to support successful inclusion opportunities.
• Attend and contribute to EHCP reviews, planning meetings, and multi-agency reviews.

Model good practice and support the wider school community in understanding and meeting the needs of pupils with SEND.

Further details about the role

Due to the expansion of our designated provision in September 2026, there is an opportunity to lead either our KS1 or KS2 8 place provision.
